CASE STUDY: WORLD CITY INFLUENCE (LONDON)
World city- a city with a major centre of finance, trade, business, politics, culture, science information and the gathering of mass media. It serves the whole world, and an important multinational city.
- Population: 8.7 million.
- Points of interest: London eye, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and St.Paul's Cathedral.
- Abou 78% of Londons population are Anglo-Saxon. Major ethnic groups include Indians, Pakistanis and Bangladeshis. Since the 1950's, the population of London has declined as many have moved to the suburbs of outskirts of London. Regarded as the most multi-cultural city in the world.
Economy:
- Service industries account for 60% of total employment (banking, insurance, civil service, education, transportation, catering, retailing, tourism)
- Greater London possesses the country's greatest concentration of professional, technical and administritive occupations as well as the highest average income in Britain.
