Leisure and Recreation:
Leisure:
A period of time spent out of work and essential domestic acitivty
Recreation:
The use of time in a manner designed for therapeutic refreshment of one's body or mind.
Mass Participation and Grass Roots:
Grass roots:
Sport played at the lowest organised levels.
Mass Participation:
Encouraging people to take part in acitivities where physical, social and mental benfits are gained. A variety of activities are promoted by governments and health bodies as well as sporting governing bodies, clubs and organisations keen to see an increase in membership to increase financial income.
Contemporary Concerns:
Issues that may result from inactivity.
Obesity:
The degree of body fat over and above the accepted gender norm.
Coronary Heart Disease:
The reuslt of the accumulation of fatty depositis forming plaques within the walls of the arteries. They become blocked and as a result, the cardiac muscles are starved of oxygen and nutrients.
Diabetes:
Inability of teh body to make sufficient insulin or the resistance of the body to insulin. The body is unable to regulate blood sugar levels efficiently.
Type 1- insulin dependent
Type 2- non-insulin dependent
High Blood Pressure:
The force exerted by your blood within the arteries.
Systolic pressure- when heart beats, pumping the blood. Highest pressure.
Diastolic pressure- when heart is at rest. Lowest pressure.

LDL (bad cholestrol)
