90% of people at this time lived in the contryside. Comminitys were small and scatterd apart. KIngs made all of the laws. during this time:

• THe kings power over punishment and pentlties grew
• The role of the church increaced
• harshness and use of punishment increaced

*Kings peace - Kings duty to tak care of law and order so peoples lives could continue as normal

*Moral crimes - crimes that didn not hurt anyone but did not fit in line with societys views on decent behaviour
