Battle of Alma- September 20 1854:
Talks between Raglan and St Arnaud (French Commander) about attacking the Russian troops was limited. Little was really discussed and as a result, no reconnaissance was done. This meant that they had no idea of the Russian troops position (on the top of a hill- vantage point). If they lost this battle, the war would have been instantly lost. The following morning, french troops began there attack up the hill, and were soon pinned down. The British troops, with no real battle plan, proceeded to attack the Russians with all they had.
