How does Lovure, Mona Lisa, Janiter syntagm's create narratives?
- Apply semiotic anaylsis:
- Consider: lighting, colour, camera angles, editing, mise en scene (e.g symbollic codes, VALs, Mythologies, Representations...)
Evaluate: not prove/disprove
Framing analysis- he's central, action source, she's objectified, passive, earned prize through physical activity, overly sexualised, relined & vulnerably posed, subjected to Asaine & audiences male gaze, POV positioning audience with him- Zonnen (media reinforces patriarchy).
Framing analysis- she's in focus, whole body framed but just back of head- importance higher leveled I shot, elevated status, interaction= wealth & status symbol, wealthy & leisure signifiers around assosiating power- racial, wealth, gender & power binary oppositions, Gilroy's Post-Colonial theory- media reinforces 'other'- power struggles between whites & non, Alvarado- men of colour theories.
Place Representation
- Paris- iconic TV (& film) setting & 1 of Lupin's main pleasures are locatioon- consider this representation's emaning- does it reinforce traditional city stereotypes/trry representing it as contemprary.
- Mythologies: Emily In Paris- unfavourably reviewed. Considered by critics & some audiences as superficial & gimmicky, with characters being 1-dimensional. The success hasen't ended negative takes (NYP Season 3 review "Emily in Paris is now too boring to hate watch"). Everey aspect gets hated; clothes, writing, acting/ Paris life representations (greatest criticism). French commnunities noticed stereotypical & cliche People characteristics.
Niche/mainstream?

- Netflix assosiated with mainstream texts.
Conglomerates & Individual producers
- Wasn't alsways this. When Netflix approached France (2014), industries, as Quartz's Nadia Neophytou put, "feared platform squeezing out independent producers, disrupting the theatrical model the industry's built on". Worst point- 2017, when they pulled out Cannes Film Festivals after being told movies without theatrical releases were award eligable.
- Yet, its clear the platform's key for French TV's global success. Fraunck Riester, former culture minister, said "Between France & Neflix, wasn't always easy. But realised we can't live without eachother"- Netflix Paris HQ launch (Jan 2020).
