  • Kinetic Theory:

- Gases are randomly moving particles- there is a lot of empty space around the particles. The gas particles collide with each other and with the sides of their container if they have one!

- Colliding Particles create pressure- When particles do collide they exert a force on each other or on the sides of their container.

- Kinetic energy is directly proportional to temperature- This means that if the temperature is doubled then the amount of kinetic energy the particles have will also double, which means they can move about faster.

If the temperature is at absolute zero (0 Kelvin) then the particles in the gas will have NO kinetic energy.

BUT REMEMBER: the temperature must be in KELVIN not celsius.

To convert from Celsius to Kelvin: ADD 273
