Atonement : The need for atonement rises when an individual (Briony) has committed a crime (turning Poing - twist ) about which she feels guilty and for when she  whishes to make amends - apologies & writing her novel 

Briony : - 13 years commits a crime 

            - 18 yrs - making ammends  ( strat writing her novel ) 

            - 77 yrs - end of the book
