Finishing in textiles

FInishing is applied to improve the appearance, properties and quality of a product. Process can either be mechanical or chemical.

Mechanical:

BRUSHING - this involves brushing either cotton or nylong to give the appearance of fluffiness and being warm. The fabric goes through a series of rollers that contain small wired brushes which cause the fibres to lift - creating a raised surface

CALENDERING - this is a more industrialised way of ironing as it smoothes out the fabric. Calendar rollers carve patterns on the fabrics surface
