Formation of the Weimar Republic and the Constitution
- On the 11th November 1918 the armistice was signed bringing WW1 to and end.
- Germany became a republic after the Kaiser abdicated.
- The new republic was called the Weimar Republic as a result of it being formed in Weimar. It was led by President Ebert.
- Many Germans saw the end of the war as a betrayal of the German army. The believed the army had been 'stabbed in the back' (Dolchstoss) by the politicians who signed the armistice.
- The new republic set up a constitution. Below are some of the clauses and the problems created by them.
