What is the EU?

The EU is a collection of 27 European nations that cooperate together on economic and politic issues. The EU began in the 1950s as an agreement between just six countries to engage in free trade for certain products.

The role of the EU has also developed into much more than a free-trade area, as closer links are made and cooperation takes place.

Today, the EU is a large organisation that contains almost 500 million people, has its own parliment and sets rules and regulations across each memeber country.

Arguments FOR EU membership

  • Free trade 
     
       Being a EU member allows free trade between EU countries.
       This means that buying and selling within the EU should be easy as buying and selling    within one country.
