Coastal erosion:

The 4 main types of erosion:

  • Abrasion - The breaking waves scoops up stones and hurls them at the cliffs
  • Hydraulic action - The pressure exerted by breaking waves traps and compresses in cracks
  • Solution - Some rocks have a chemical composition which salt and water can dissolve
  • Attrition - The waves swirl rock fragments about and as they collide they wear down the cliffs
