Geography - Biomes

?

Factors Effecting climate.

  • Prevailing winds bring parts of the climate from their original location and may carry moisture if they come from the sea.
  • Latitude - when sunlight hits at different latitudes, the sunlight may be concentrated (at the equator) or spread over a much larger area (at the poles). This effects the heat at those locations
  • Altitude - Air cools 1 degree for every 100m of altitude gained. Upland areas also receive more rainfall as moisture condenses.
  • Ocean currents bring parts of the climate from their original loction.
  • Distance from the ocean - in winter when the sea is warmer than the land coastal areas are warmer than inland. In the summer, the opposite is true. This is because land gains and loses heat quickly whereas water does this much more slowly.

The Equatorial Rainforest Biome.

Temperature has little seasonal variation with only a 1 degree temperature range. Rainfall varies by month. From October to May the highest rainfall is seen
