Hitler's rise to power; from Chancellor to Dictator.

The steps to how Hitler became Fuhrer:

1) January 1933, Hitler became Chancellor;

• von Papen asks President Hidenburg to make Hitler Chancellor but Hidenburg refuses (22nd Jan)
• von Schleicher resigned from being Chancellor (28th Jan)
• Hidenburg is persuaded to appoint Hitler as Chancellor and von Papen as vice-Chancellor (30th Jan)
• Communists weren't happy about Nazis being so powerful

2) February 1933, The Reichstag Fire;

• The Reichstag was set on fire (27th Feb)
• Police found Dutch Communist, van der Lubbe - was arrested/charged for starting the fire
• Hitler used this as evidence that the Communists were plotting…
