Key Words
Landscape- Is the visible feature of an area of land, it's landform, and how they intergrate with natural or man-made features
Distinctive- How landforms and features (physical and human) combine to create an area that is special
Honeypot- A honeypot site is a location attracting lots of tourists who, due to their numbers, place pressure on the environment and local people
Rock cycle- A basic concept in geology that describes transitions throught geological time among the three main rock types
Weathering- The process of wearing or being worn by long exposure to the atmosphere
Resistant- To be immune or impervious to something
Capacity- The maximum amount that something can contain
Sustainable- Able to be maintained at a certain level
Fluvial- Referring to a river and its landform
Erosion- The wearing away of the land
Depostition- The dropping of the materials carried by the river
Bed load- The materials carred by the river being bounced or rolled a long its bed
Fluvial Erosion- The type of erosional process that occurs in a river will depnd on a number of factors including the volocity of the water and the rocks and soil type of the channel.
Abrasion- Stones and materials carried by the river hitting the river bed and banks, wearing them away
Hydraulic Action- The sheer force of water hitting the river bed and banks, compressing air gaps in the soil and rock which causes material to be washed away
Solution- The slightly acidic river water dissolves chalk and limestone rocks which are made from calcium carbonate
Atrittion- Stones carried by the river collide together are broken down, becoming rounder and smaller
Abrasion- Stones and materials carried by the river hitting the river bed and banks become eroded themselves to become rounder and smaller.
Transportation- The river moves its load in a number of ways which depends on the speed of flow and the weight of the loads (The movement of material by the flow of water)
Solution- Minerals are dissolved in the water. This is a chemical change affecting rocks such as limestone and chalk. Load transported in this way is called solute load.
Meander- They are usaully found in the middle and lower course of a river valley. They are bends in the river usually seen when the river is on a wide floodplain. Caused by both erosion on the outside of the bank and deposition on the inside of the bank meanders can often be seen to 'move' or…
