L'ecriture Feminine

L'ecriture is a writing style, made popular by Helene Cixious, to create emphasis on the elaborate nature of the woman's voice.

The writing style is used with excess description in sentences that will often consist of asyndetic listing and/or a a semi colon or complex sentence structure. This is because it is meant to be the representation of a woman's inner narrative, narrating the point of the piece. Instead of just sticking to a default writing style, it is used to suggest the oppression the narrator feels, leading them to not feel free enough to have a freedom of speech.

The elaborate description is often seen having a fast switch in topic or focus; this is to suggest the 'mae tongue' that interferes. The male voice that is allowed by societal convention to be the dominant voice and cut off the woman's. The writing style suggests; patriarchy, oppression, fear, gender inequality and freedom of speech.

The Laugh of The Medusa is an essay written by the french feminist critic Helene Cixious. It was first written in 1975 and Cixious issues an ultimatum to the female reader: to read and write the inner voice women have that is elaborate, under appreciated and trapped, or that woman will use their body's to communicate.

This is when the writing style, L'ecriture Feminie, is really used for the first purposeful time that was taken into account by all readers. She argues that L'ecriture Feminine allows women to address their needs by building strong self-narratives and identity. This
