Extreme left threat:
- Wanted to see Germany become communist like the Soviet Union (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics/USSR, existed from 1922 to 1991 involved Russia and other countries) and wanted to destroy the Weimar Republic
- January 1919 saw the Spartacist uprising which was when the commmunist group the Spartacists took advantage of the political protest as a way of attempting to start a communist revolution. President Ebert told the Freikorps (volunteer group of armed ex-servicemen) to stop the attempt. Leaders of Spartacists, Rosa Luxembourg and Karl Liebknecht were killed.
- Communists took to the streets many times in the early 20s and protested. They created an unstable atmosphere. They managed to temporarily control/rebel in certain places such as Bavaria in 1919, the Ruhr in 1920 and Saxony and Thuringia in 1923. The army and Freikorps got involved and stopped them.
- People started to fear this communist revolution which meant they started to ignore the threat from the far right.
