VDU'S give a visual display:
Also called a monitor, a Visual Display Unit (VDU) is the most commonly used output device. They're used when visual information is needed but a permanent record isn't. There are two ways that monitors differ from each other:
- Size- measured in inches across the diagonal. A typical general PC monitor has a size of around 17 inches. Laptops have a screen about 12 inches across.
- Resolution- measured by the number of pixels or dots that make up the image viewed on the screen. The main sizes are high (1024x768), medium (800x600) and low (640x480). The resolution on most laptops is 800x600
The two main types of monitor are:
- LCD's (used in laptops and for some desktop PCs)
