Pompeii- The Original Site

People would want to live in Pompeii because:

• It has great weather
• Right beside the River Sarno for a water supply
• It had fertile soil due to previous eruptions of the volcano, Mount Vesuvius, which was good for growing crops
• It was on the coast for trade which is good for any town- Natural bay for weather protection
• Crossroads, people passing through might of stopped to buy or sell- good for trade
• Fertile soil also meant lots of fodder for animals. They had many cattle and sheep. They had more sheep as they could graze at the lower slopes of Mt.Vesuvius
