the beginning of these notes is the same as greece, because the romans copied the greeks!
The Sanctuary = the holy bit in a town or city that had the altar for a god. you had to be NOT polluted. to become not polluted you had to wash or bathe, which is why there was usually a fresh water source for ppl to wash their hands & feet at the entrance (a bit like wudu in islam).
in rome, it didn't have to be specific to 1 god or goddess.
what made you polluted?
- everything (jkjk...)
- smn in the family had died
- you've touched a dead person (idk why you would even do that)
- if you've touched a new-born (or given birth...)
- if you've commited homicide. or killed smn on purpose, but i doubt you'd go pray after murder
