Polymers
KEY WORDS
Monomer - A simple molecule which can be joined together, in large numbers, to form a long chain polymer
Addition polymer - A long chain molecule produced by joining together a large number of simple molecules (monomers). The monomers used are alkene, or alkene derivitive.
Polymerisation - This is the process in which large numers of simple molecules are joined together to form long chain polymers. Usually around 5 - 10 thousand monomers.
Examples of polymers - polychloroethene (PVC)
- polyphenylethene (polystyrene)
How to identify the monomer from polymers
- Identify the repeat…
