SUMMARY                

  • Sempriona was a supporter of Caitiline and is presented as lacking the qualities which Roman matrons are celebrated.
  • Catiline (who planned an uprising against the republic is said to have attracted many people, even women. These women had first had first sold their bodies to finance their luxuries till they were too old, but their tastes had not changed and so they fell into debt. 
  • One of these women was Sempriona. She had a husband and children and was educated. "well read in greek and latin literatures" & could play the lyre.
