subject choice - gender inequalities in education

subject choice facts:

- females are more likely to pick a subject related to arts or humanities 

-boys are more likely to choose more of a technology-related subject 

Smith (2011) - females makeup around 70% of psychology candidates and even higher in sociology, they found that this continued at university. 

- at a levels males outnumber females in all sciences and technical subjects apart from biology. However, females outnumber males in the other subjects e.g. English language, modern languages and social sciences
