Thatcher's aims
- Smaller state bureacracy - too much state intervention had contributed to British decline, welfare state had become 'nanny state'
- Less gov. interference - felt large public sector led to dependency of lazy individuals on state, state monopolies of public services led to complacency from uncompetitive workforce
- Cheaper tax bill for British public - tax = taking money from the rich to subsidise the poor, culture of dependency, drained wealth from successful individuals who could've used this money for private entrepreneurship
Reasons for her aims
- Strong moral values rooted in Methodist upbringing…
