The Great American Desert:
Problems that detered settlers:
- Extreme weather - it was often windy, as well as having extreme seasons.
- Lack of shelter - it was flat grassland - no protection against the weather.
- Lack of natural resources - settlers would have to find other ways to survive.
- Lack of water - there were no rivers and the majority of water was found underground.
- Natives - the Plains Indians scared white settlers; many feared attacks
Things that attracted white settlers:
- Availablity of cheap/free land…
