By measuring the discharge of a river, you can study the river flow.

• Volume of water passing a certain point in a given time.
• Calculated by multiplying the cross-sectional areas of the river by the velocity at the measuring point. It's measured in cumecs.

A combined result of climatological and geological factors determines the amount of discharge in a river.
