why were Germany unable to pay reparations?
- the 1919 treaty of versailles deprived Germany of 75% of it iron ore resources and 15% of it arable land
-the final reparation sum of £6600 in 1921 placed a heavy economic burden on Germany
-war production fell away with the end of hostilities
- men returning from the frint demanded jobs which weren't there
consequences of the Ruhr occupation:
political problems: munich beer hall putsch
hitler took advantage of the chaos of the passive resistance and hyperinflation to launch a rebellion against the republic
social problems: passive resistance
workers went on strike, as a result the french and belgium soldiers attacked the workers and many Germans were killed
economic problems: hyperinflation
the government printed money to ease the problems caused by the strikes, money quickly became so worthless people used it to start…
