why were Germany unable to pay reparations?

- the 1919 treaty of versailles deprived Germany of 75% of it iron ore resources and 15% of it arable land

-the final reparation sum of £6600 in 1921 placed a heavy economic burden on Germany

-war production fell away with the end of hostilities

- men returning from the frint demanded jobs which weren't there

consequences of the Ruhr occupation:

political problems: munich beer hall putsch

hitler took advantage of the chaos of the passive resistance and hyperinflation to launch a rebellion against the republic

social problems: passive resistance

workers went on strike, as a result the french and belgium soldiers attacked the workers and many Germans were killed
