Ineractionalists use labelling theory to explain crime and deviance. The labelling thery argues that once someone is labelled as something they have a tendency to see themselves in terms of that label and act accordingly. Others may begin to see them within terms of that label and act towards them on this basis. Labelling can eventually result in self-fulfilling prophecy.
