AMERICAN WEST (1840-1895)
WHY THE MORMONS MOVED TO THE WEST:
Mormons:
Mormons are members of a particular sect within the Christian church. The Mormons doctrine was first expounded in 1830 by a farmer called Joseph Smith. He claimed two angels had given them golden plates, which he translated as the `Book of Mormon`.
The Mormons were initially hated, persecuted and driven from place to place. Then in 1846, they decided to go on a journey Westwards.
