Anatomy 5- oro facial lymphatics

?
What is the lymphatic system made of?
organs (bone marrow, spleen and thymus), lymphatic vessels (e.g. thoracic duct), lymph nodes, mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT eg “tonsils”)
1 of 13
What does the lymphatic system do?
Removes excess fluid from the tissues and returns it to the venous system. it carries fats from the GI tract to the venous system. Produces immune cells.
2 of 13
What is tissue fluid? and what is lymph?
Tissue fluid is excess fluid left in the tissues and once this fluid is taken up by the lymphatic vessel is called lymph
3 of 13
where do the lymphatic vessels go?
to the thoracic duct/ right lymphatic duct
4 of 13
What happens if the lymph node attempts to fight against an infection in the lymph?
it produces germinal centres, enlarges and becomes painful due to its capsule stretching.
5 of 13
What are the two groups of lymph nodes of the head and neck?
the superficial ring and the deep cervical nodes
6 of 13
Name the superficial ring of regional lymph nodes which drain the scalp, face and superficial upper neck.
Parotid, buccal, submental, submandibular, mastoid, occipital and superficial cervical nodes
7 of 13
What is the lymphatic drainage of deep structures of the head and neck?
retropharyngeal, submittal and submandibular and deep cervical nodes which are the final command pathway from H&N
8 of 13
Which are the tonsils of the Head&Neck
Palatine tonsil (in the oropharynx), palate Associatiated lymphoid tissue, pharyngeal tonsil 'adenoid' in nasopharynx and tubal tonsil in the nanopharynx
9 of 13
Where does the lymph from the palatine tonsil drain?
To the jugulo digastric node(this is a specific deep cervical lymph node)
10 of 13
What is the juggle-digastric node
it is a regional node for the palatine tonsil
11 of 13
Where does the lymph from the posterior 1/3rd of the tongue drain?
it drains bilaterally to superior deep cervical nodes
12 of 13
here does the lymph from the anterior 2/3rds of the tongue drain? talk about middle, sides and tip of the tongue
middle- drains bilaterally to inferior deep cervical nodes. Sides drain unilaterally to submandibular nodes. Tip drains bilaterally to submental nodes
