Unreliable narrator
A narrator in the story that proves to be inconsistent and in general not extremely capable at recalling events, e.g. Lockwood in Wuthering Heights or Nick at times in The Great Gatsby

A narrator that is entirely honest and has no reason to lie, or is not ashamed of telling the truth (Amir - Kite Runner), a narrator that recalls events as they happen, not remembering them from the past - Auden poetry

Plot elements that raise questions on part of the reader -- not satisfied until loose ends are clarified
