What is the carbon cycle in nature?
The constant cycle of carbon in nature is known as the carbon cycle.
1 of 6
Which processes removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere - and which processes return it?
Carbon dioxide is removed from the atmosphere by photosynthesis. It is returned to the atmosphere through respiration and combustion.
2 of 6
What are the main sources of carbon on earth?
'Locked up' in fossil fuels, combined with other elements in rocks (chalk and limestone), carbon dioxide in the air and some carbon are dissolved in the water of lakes and oceans.
3 of 6
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide + Water (+ light energy) => Glucose + Oxygen.
4 of 6
What is the equation for respiration?
Glucose + Oxygen => Carbon Dioxide + Water (+ energy)
5 of 6
What is the equation for combustion?
Fossil fuels or wood + Oxygen => Carbon Dioxide + Water (+ energy)
