What does a correlation do>
It illustrates the direction and strength of a relationship between 2 variables e.g. height and shoe size.
1 of 11
WHat is used to illuastrate this correlation?
Scatterplot
2 of 11
What is a positive correlation?
High scores on one variable associated with high scores on another
3 of 11
What is a negative correlation>
A negative correlation is the opposite; high scores on one variable are linked with low scores on another.
4 of 11
What is correlation measure on?
A scale of +1 = perfect positive correlation, 0 = no correlation, -1 = perfect negative correlation.
5 of 11
What is pearson's correlation coefficient
r=1 - it is the most common measure of correlation.
6 of 11
What does pearson's correlatino coefficient assume?
It assumes continous data (if not then use spearman's test0, linear relationship between variables - measures linear correclation.
7 of 11
How do you determine is scores on one variable predict or explain those on another>
Square the correlation number and multiply by 100.
8 of 11
Give an example of this:
Correlation between number of session and satisfaction = 0.5, so 25% of variability can be predicted of satisfaction. 75% remains unexplained
9 of 11
What is regression?
It is the relaationship between variables.
10 of 11
What is regression used for?
To caluclate line of best fit.
