Bonding

?
What is an Ionic Bond?
They form part of a giant ionic lattice where each positive ion is attracted by negative ions which surround the positive ion in a regular array.
1 of 6
What is an example of a Ionic Bond?
NaCl
2 of 6
What can ions do, in an ionic compound, when they are in the liquid phase?
They can conduct electricity, as the ions are free to move and carry the current.
3 of 6
What is a Covalent Bond?
This is where two atoms share a pair of electrons.
4 of 6
How does the electron pair create a bond between the two atoms, in a covalent bond?
The electron pair attracts the nucleus of each atom and therefore resists the separation of the two atoms.
5 of 6
What is a Dative Covalent Bond?
This is where both electrons in a shared electron pair originate from one atom, once formed it is the same as a covalent bond.
