Why women should have the vote.
women pay taxes so they should be allowed to vote 'No taxation without representation'. They had already shown political skill and ability also less educated men are allowed to vote therefore women should be allowed to vote.

Why women shouldn't be allowed to vote.
Women belong in the demostic sphere and are too emotional to vote/be involed with politics and don't have a mind of their own.

National Union of Women's Suffrage Societes (NUWSS)
created in 1897 lead by Millicent Fawcett. Working claasss/middle class members represented by the colours red,white and green. They used peaceful and legal methords to win the right to vote.

Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU)
Created in 1903 which had members of the upper/middle class with the colours white,purple and green. They were lead by Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughters.

Conciliation Act 1910-11
In the 1908's MPs from all parties joined the 'Conciliation Commitee' which lead to the Conciliation Bill this intended to give women the right to vote. In 1910, the bill begins to fail this leads to Black Friday when 300 members protest.

Emily Davison
she had two degrees in and was imprisioned several times and threw herself down an iron stair cases in protest. She died on the 4th June 1913 at the derby due to a fractured skull 4 days later at being in an altercation with the kings horse.

Men's League for Opposing Women's Suffrage, National League for Opposing Women's suffrage and Propaganda

Women's Anti-Suffrage league and alot of the press opposed women's suffrage.

Asquith who was the Prime Minster from 1908 and they was alot of propaganda made opposing women's Suffrage in newspapers and cartoons.

The condition of the poor
Rowntree did a survey in york oand found that 43% lived below the lines of poverty and Booth's survey in London found that 1/3 of people lived below the poverty line.Research showed that many families coulld not afford food,clothes or shelter.

The Boer War
The Boer War between 1899 and 1902 found that half of the army recruits were unfit for serves due to ill health as they could not afford to feed themselves.In some areas 69% of men were unfit for army service.
