25th May 1922 - It paralysed his right side and deprived him for a while of speech.

What were the good attributes of Trotsky succeeding Lenin?
He was a brilliant orator and as the supremem leader of the Red Army he more than anyone had won the civil war.

What were the bad attributes of Trotsky succeeding Lenin?
He was prideful and arrogant. He had a Jewish and Menshevik past and therefore was seen as an outsider so he was unpopular amongst the party.

He had held multiple positions in the party such as; Commissar for Nationalities, Commissar of Rabkrin and he was a member of the Politburo.

He had a Georgian accent (lower class) and was made to feel inferior amongst the party's intellectuals. Also he was secretly vengeful on these people and he had a gangster habit from his time in the underground revolutionary crowd and criminal past

It was Kamenev, Zinoviev and Stalin teaming up in order for Trotsky to not take over the party after Lenin.

April 1922 - Lenin, after being urged by Stalin, made him the first General Secretary of the Party.

What was the Georgian incident?
Once the Bolsheviks had conquered the old empires borderlands Stalin as Commissar of Nationalities, proposed that non-Russian republics should join Russia as autonomous regions effectively depriving them of the right to leave the union.

;Lenin believed that they ought to have the right to be sovereign republics as they would eventually want to be apart of the Soviet Union.

What happened and how did this change Lenin's view of Stalin?
A close ally of Stalin beat up a Georgian Bolshevik who spoke out against this policy and because of this Lenin saw the domineering and bullying nature of Stalin which he spoke about in his last testament.

When Lenin wrote his Testament in 1923 what did the party congress decide to do with it?
They decided to suppress it and not read it aloud.

What did Trotsky do to protest the suppression of the Testament?
He teamed up with the "Group of 46" and wrote an open letter to the central committee accusing it of suppressing democracy in the party.

What was the "Group of 46"?
It was 46 leading Bolshevik members who were concerned about the lack of democracy and left wing representation within the party.

What was the "Declaration of the Forty Six"?
It was made after Trotsky's open letter and sent to the Politburo anonymously in order to voice concerns about the state of the party. This declartion mixed with Trotsky made up the "Left Opposition" in the Communist party between 1923 and 1927.

What did this open letter do to Trotsky?
Because the public nature of the letter Stalin was given ammo to accuse Trotsky of factionalism which would discredit Trotsky and neutralise him as a danger to Stalin's leadership.

What happened to Trotsky?
While Zinoviev and Kamenev wanted Trotsky outed from the party; Stalin, wanting to be seen as the voice of moderation, allowed him to stay because he knew that Trotsky's career was over.

What happened when Lenin's Testament was read out loud at the behest of Lenin's widow?
Zinoviev and Kamenev both defended Stalin and argued that he was a different man now. This effectively meant that the Testament was ignored.

When and why did the Triumvirate split?
1925, Stalin announced his new theory of socialism in one nation. Zinoviev and Kamenev could not accept this and opted for the spreading of socialism so they split and opposed Stalin who had teamed with Bukharin as the Duumvirate.

1925, because he knew the danger that a military coup could pose to his rising as the leader of the party.

What was the Scissors Crisis?
Because of the NEP the rich Kulaks now had an excess of money but the Russian industry did not produce sufficient commodities for them to spend their money so instead they hoarded their grain. Because of this the price of grain rose alarmingly fast.

They once again made an argument against the NEP. Zinoviev and Kamenev allied themselves with Trotsky forming the United Opposition.
