What is moulding
Change in the shape of the fetal skull that takes place during its passage through the birth canal
9 of 20
What does moulding allow

The brain
12 of 20
What is a capput succedaneum
Present at birth, may cross the suture line, tends to decrease in size, disappears within 36hrs, diffuses and pits on gentle pressure, oedematous swelling on the presenting part due to pressure during membrane rupture or slow progress of early labour
13 of 20
What is a cephalohematoma
Appears 24-48hrs after birth, increases in size, may last several weeks, swelling on skull due to effusion of blood between periosteum of cranial bone due to friction between skull and pelvis
14 of 20
What are the implications of cephalohematoma
Increased change of jaundice, coagulation disorder if increases in size, more common in CPD or precipitate labour
15 of 20
Flax Cerebri
Seperates the two hemispheres of the cerebrum
16 of 20
Tentorium Cerebelli
Seperates the cerebrum above from the cerebelli below
17 of 20
Longtitudinal sinus
Unpaired area along the attached margin of the flax cerebri which allows blood to drain from the lateral aspects of anterior cerebral hemispheres
