How is water involved when acids and bases react?
Acids produce H+ ions, while bases produce OH- ions. When they react, the base accepts the proton (or the H+), which creates H20 (water)
1 of 7
What is a strong acid/alkali
one that is 100% ionised in water
2 of 7
What does a low pH show?
it is a strong acid, with a high concentration of hydrogen ions
3 of 7
How can we measure accurately the amount of alkali needed to react completely with an acid
using titration, (with the acid in the conical flask)
4 of 7
How do we know when the titration reaction is complete?
when it has met the end point, shown when the indicator changes colour
5 of 7
What indicator should be used when a weak acid + stong alkali react?
phenolphthalein
6 of 7
what unit is concentation measured in?
moles per cubic decimetre
