How does Scheuermanns disease present?
Visible kyphotic deformity- History of deformity- Progresses- back pain, increased by activity- Eased by rest- End of day stiffess- severe- heart and lung can be affected

What is the mechanism of Scheuermanns disease ?
The disease mostly develops during puberty- but the real cause is still unclear- Factors include: juvenile osteoporosis, malabsorption, infection, endocrine disorders and biomechanical factors including a shortened sternum. Evidence of genetic factor

What pathophysiology is involved in Scheuermanns disease ?
Nowak 2015- With Scheuermann's kyphosis, the thoracic curve is usually 45 and 75 degrees. There will also be vertebral wedging of greater than five degrees of three or more vertebrae that are next to each other.

Previous head injury- 5D'S- VBI- Cauda Equina- X RAY- MRI- Accurate diagnostic tool- RA/OA- could affect vertebrae- THREAD- Tumour- RULE OUT

Type? Dosage? Over counter/ Prescribed? Taken before treatment?

Objective- What observations can be made in a patient with hat information do you require about the history of Scheuermanns disease ?
Poking Chin- Standing/sitting posture- Affected- One scapula may be higher than the other- Muscle bulk different on one side? Is breathing affected? Any signs of imflamation?

Neurological tests- What myotome can be tested in a patient with Scheuermanns disease ?
neurological signs are rare but should be ruled out- C7- resisted elbow extension as C7 may be affected- T1- Finger abduction

What dermatone can be tested in a patient with Scheuermanns disease ?
c7- middle finger t1- medial arm

What Reflex can be tested in patients with Scheuermanns disease ?
Triceps- c7- No reflex for t1- rule out any hyperreflexia or associated conditions

Adams forward bend- kyphotic deformity will be best demonstrated in the forward flexed position.
