Monitoring the child's progress, providing educational support in aspects of struggle, increasing educational assistance if no progress is made

What educators carry out the "Response to Intervention"?
School psychologists and Speech Language Pathologist (SLPs)

What is a school psychologist?
Trained in education and psychology, identify and diagnose LDs, help with disability and parents and teachers, make a plan to improve child's learning

What is an SLP?
Trained in diagnosing and treating speech and language related disorders, can provide language evaluations, assesses the child's ability to organise his/her thoughts and possessions, evaluates age appropriate learning skills

What are the common signs an symptoms of learning disabilities?
Trouble leaning the alphabet, numbers, colours, shapes, days of the week. Making consistent spelling errors. Difficulty telling the time. Difficulty reading and spelling. Trouble with speaking and public discussions. Poor organisational skills.

What is Autism?
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how people perceive the world and interact with others.

How is Autism diagnosed?
A diagnosis is the formal identification of autism, usually by a multi-disciplinary diagnostic team, often including a speech and language therapist, paediatrician, psychiatrist and/or psychologist.

What are common signs of Autism?
The person will usually be assessed as having had persistent difficulties with social communication & interaction, and restricted/repetitive behaviours

What is Dyslexia?
A common learning disability which can cause problems with reading, writing and spelling.

What are common signs of Dyslexia?
Poor and inconsistent spelling. Struggle with planning and organisation. Slow reading and writing. Confusion of letters in a word.

What is Downs syndrome?
a genetic condition, of which they have an extra chromosone 21.

How does Downs syndrome affect leaarning?
Comes with a definite learning disability, of any severity, thus impacting acquisition of knowledge and impact communication.
