a systemic autoimmune inflammatory disease
Autoimmune disease of unknown aetiology: joint destruction due to synovial inflammation, multi system disease

Pathophysiology= auto-immune disease characterised by fibrosis of connective tissues
- Skin mainly affected (scleroderma)= thickened and bound to underlying structures
- Multi-organ disease (systemic sclerosis)

- Beaked nose, fixed expression, radial furrowing of lips, limitation of mouth movements

- Raynaud’s phenomenon
- Pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary fibrosis

- Cardiac fibrotic disease
- GI- dysphagia and reflux
