Projects are risk tolerant as they deal with change and uncertainty. BAU is risk averse as you want to be sure of the outcome

Projects vs BAU: Teams
Project teams are temporary with different skill sets assembled. BAU teams are permanent and made up of people with the same skills

Projects vs BAU: Outputs
Projects allow the BAU to gain benefits, whilst the sponsor is accountable for the benefits, the project doesn't deliver them. BAU uses the product to generate the benefit, the users do this for the sponsor

What is the process of change organisation?
Project delivers outputs which are introduced to an organisation via a transition or business change, once this is done the outcomes are delivered, then they are embedded to the organisation can realise the benefits
