What is igneous rock?
- They are the result of volcanic activity in the past.

- Lava reached the surface, cooled and solidified.

- Examples include basalt, granite (intrusive).

What is sedimentary rock?
- They are the result of sediment layers accumulating.

- Sediment is compressed by the weight of deposits above.

- Examples include sandstone, clay (mud).

What is metamorphic rock?
- They are the result of intense heat and pressure.

- Rocks start as either igneous or sedimentary rock then get crystallised by heat and pressure.

- Examples include marble, schist.

What is relief?
The way that the landscape changes in height.

- Upland areas are high above sea level. They are often, but not always, mountainous.

- Lowland areas are not very high above sea level. They are often flat.
