The first stage of photosynthesis. Takes place in the Thylakoid Membrane. Produces ATP.
1 of 8
Light Independant Stage (Calvin Cycle)
Second stage of Photosynthesis. Takes place in the stroma of the chloroplast. Produces ATP, Reduced NADP and Oxygen.
2 of 8
ATP
Universal currency of energy. Releases and stores energy by the addition and subtraction of inorganic phosphate.
3 of 8
NADP
Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide Phosphate. A co-enzyme for Redox reactions. Stores electrons (e^-) and Protons for the Calvin Cycle. NADP+ + H+ + 2e- -> NADPH
4 of 8
Photosystems
Lots of accessory pigment molecules surround a primary pigment molecule (Reaction Centre) in a cone-like structure. There are 2 types of Photosystem, PS1 = P700 (absorbs light best at 700 nm) and PS2 = P680 (absorbs light best at 680nm)
5 of 8
Reaction Centre
A molecule of Chlorophyll a, which light is funneled into through the photosystem. These span the thylakoid membrane.
6 of 8
Photophosphurylation
Formation of ATP using ADP and Pi using energy derived from light.
7 of 8
Photolysis
When light energy is absorbed by PSII, some is used by an enzyme to split water molecules, generating waste oxygen.
