how are leaves adapted to photosynthesis?

big surface area for sunlight, most chloroplasts are near the top of the leaf so can get more sunlight, underneath the leaf stomata are found (tiny holes) this is where carbon dioxide diffuses into the leaf from the air

why do plants need minerals?

plants grow using food they make themselves in photosythesis, but to keep healthy they need mineral nutrients from the soil, they also absorb these minerals through their roots (along with water)

what is photosynthesis?

it is a chemical reaction that takes place in every green plant, produces food in the form of glucose, they can use the food to the create more biomass (grow), it takes place in all the green bits but mainly the leaves

these are the male parts of the flower, they consist of anther and filament, the anther contains the pollen grains which produce the male sex cells and the filament supports the anther

these are the female parts of the flower they consist of the stigma, style and ovary the ovary contains the female sex cells inside the ovules

they are often brightly coloured, this is to attract insects for pollination

tomake a seed the male and female sex cells must meet up, to do this the pollen grains must get from a stamen to a stigma, basically to get pollen to the stigma

pollen is transferred from the stamen to the stigma of the same plant

bright coloured petals, scented flowers with necraries (glands that produce a sugary liquid for insects to feed on), sticky stigma to take the pollen off the insect

small dull petals, no scent or nectaries, long filaments hang on the anthers ont the outside of thre flower so a lot of pollen is blown away, stigmas are feathery to catch pollen as it carried past in the wind
