what are the layers of the earth?
crust

mantle

lithosphere

inner core

outer core
1 of 10
what is the crust?
thin top layer, continental crust dense and not destroyed, oceanic crust dense and destroyed by plate movement
2 of 10
what is the mantle?
Mainly solid, rocks high in silicon

contains the Lithosphere- Broken up into plates, top of the lithosphere is the crust
3 of 10
what is the outer core?
Semi-molten
Iron/nickel
4 of 10
what is the inner core?
Solid ball of iron/nickel

This heat is responsible for Earth’s internal energy, and it
spreads throughout
5 of 10
what is the plate tectonic theory?
lithosphere is broken up into tectonic plates

plates move due to the convection currents in the asthenosphere, which push and pull the
plates in different directions

The edges of where plates meet are called plate boundaries
6 of 10
what are the different plate margins?
destructive plate margin (towards each other)

constructive plate margin (away from each other)

conservative plate margin (parallel to each other)
7 of 10
how to destructive plates act?
heavier/denser plates (oceanic plates) subduct underneath the continental plate forming ocean trenches
8 of 10
how do constructive plates act?
when the 2 plates move away, the magma rises in the gap left and so it cools and hardens and forms new land and volcanoes
9 of 10
how do conservative plate boundaries act?
the 2 crusts move past each other so nom plates are destroyed and no new landforms created
