ELIZABETH BENNET
Is the romantic heroine, she is one of the five Bennet sisters. She's got a good sense of humour, but she is quick to form opinions about people. Ends up marrying Mr Darcy. She shoes both PRIDE and PREJUDICE, she is 'determined to hate' Darcy.

JANE BENNET
She is the eldest Bennet daughter. She is quiet, 'takes the good of everybody's character and make it still better' and good-natured. Her attitude contrasts to Elizabeth's quickness to form opinions. Ends up marrying Mr Bingley.

LYDIA BENNET
Is the youngest Bennet daughter. She is flirty, childish, has 'high animal spirits' and very keen on men in uniform. She runs away with Mr Wickham in chapter 46 which was very irresponsible of her.

MRS BENNET
Very silly and bad-mannered, married to Mr Bennet. She is a caricature because she is so hysterical and unaware of her flaws. Austen uses her to create ironic humour; all she wants is her daughters to be married.

MR BENNET
He is very sarcastic but he means well, married to Mrs Bennet. He teases Mrs Bennet 'I have a high respect for your nerve. They are my old friends'. He often shares the same opinion as Lizzy; readers view him positively.

MR DARCY
Is a rich, handsome landowner with a high opinion of himself. Austen drops hints that he is very courteous, he listens to Miss Bingly with 'indifference'. He falls in love with Elizabeth and proposes to her the 2nd time in chapter 58.

MR BINGLEY
Is a good friend of Mr Darcy. He is rich, easy-going and generous. He proposes to Jane in chapter 50.

GEORGE WICKHAM
Is a handsome soldier with an eye for the ladies. He is a strong contrast to Darcy; makes a good first impression and is not snobby or prejudice. He wants to marry for money; moved on from Elizabeth to Miss King who had inherited '£10,000'.

CHARLOTTE LUCAS
Is Elizabeth's friend. She is practical and not romantic. He wanted to marry for security not love. She ends up marrying Mr Collins.

LADY CATHERINE DE BOURGH
Is My Darcy's rich, snobby aunt. She want's him to marry her daughter Anne. Her own pride in her own status makes her behave rudely, she makes her guests feel uncomfortable with 'the impertinence of her questions'.

MR COLLINS
He is the imbecilic heir to the Bennet estate. He looks down on the Bennets and worships Lady Catherine de Bourgh. Austen uses him to satirise people who put too much importance on social status, does not see LCDB's rudeness.

The Gardiners
Provide a strong contrast to Mr and Mrs Bennet to emphasise their flaws as parents. They provide the Bennet daughters with 'comfort and support' when they needed it. Austen uses them to criticise class prejudice, they are middle class.

Georgiana Darcy
Reveals Darcy's softer side to Elizabeth. Austen uses her to represent Darcy's 'emotional vulnerability'. She shows his kindness and capability for love.
