What are three steps in the process of mediation?
Selection, Organisation and Focusing.

What happens in selection?
Things such as news stories etc are selected as not everything is included. The most interesting stories are selected "newsworthy".

What happens in organisation?
Elements are organised differently to real life. Mise-en-scene is used to organise the narrative.

What happens in focusing?
The audience are encouraged by the media text to concentrate on one particular aspect, ignoring the others.

What is the contructionist view?
When someone believes the representation can never just be the truth and that it can cause us to ignore our own ability to make up our own minds as individuals

What is the intentional view?
The person doing the representing is seen as the most important thing in the process

What is the reflective view?
Taking the meaning of something and creating a replica.

A repeated character type that is recognisable to the audience. eg stereotype

Key element that fixes meaning of an image and directs viewer to preferred reading.
