Research support- resistance to conformity
research shows pairs who disagree with the majority resist conformity.Allen and Levine conformity decreased when there was a dissenter in Asch type study. not motivation from someone else to help them to be free but also no pressure from group.

Support of dissenting pairs in resisting obedience. Gamson et al found higher levels of resistance in their study than Milgram. Gamsons study were in groups. 29/33 groups of participants rebelled. Peer support is linked to greater resistance

Holland repeated Milgrams Basline study and measured if 'p' were internals and externals. 37% internals=not continue to the highest shock. whereas externals 23% = not continue. Internals showed greater resistance to authority. Increase validity.

Twenge etal analysed data over 40year period. Data shows that this time span people become more resistant to obedience but also more externals. Challenges link of iLOC, increase resistant behaviour.however change in society/out of personal control.
