What are the 4 risk factors for SIDS?
Smoking around baby and in pregnancy, prone infant sleeping (on front), not breast feeding and bed sharing!

2-4 months, critical development period or if premature

What makes an infant VULNERABLE to SIDS?
Not easily aroused, any genetic tendencies to not be aroused, infections...being swaddled, can't wake self up!

What outside stressors can cause SIDS?
Too hot and head covering, sleeping in a seperate room, sleeping prone, formula feeding (due to neurodev. and arousal), smoking and not a clear bed!

If someone wants to co-sleep, what do we inform them?
No covers, no pillows, bed against the wall. Parents don't smoke, not young, infant not premature, infant easily aroused, parent not on medications.

What products do we recommend for safe sleeping?
Clip on cribs, monitors, sleeping bags correct tog value

What are the main safe sleeping guidelines?
Infant on back, bed is clear and a firm, flat surface. House is smoke free. Infant not overdressed. No bedding. Room not too hot. Feet at the bottom of the bed.

What needs to be evaluated for safe car seat/ pram use?
Make sure infant's head is not too far forward...blocks oxygen!
