what is the purpose of sampling?
to ensure that the people who are included in the study are representative of the research population

what is a sampling frame?
a list of all the members of the population who we are interested in studying

why do interpretivists not see representativeness as important?
they are more interested in micro data instead of macro

what are hard statistics?
can not aegue with what it is saying (the law)

what are soft statistics?
you can argue againts them as they are less valid

why are official statistics reliable?
because you can catagorise them

what are the advantages of official statistics?
show pattersn over time, therefore socioligists can use 'before and after' studies to show cause of effect relationship

what are the disadvantages of official statistics?
doesnt always help socioligists as the government keep info to themselves
